Maria Sharapova defeated top-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium 7-5, 7-5 Sunday to win the championship of the Acura Classic. The victory, before a capacity crowd of 6,500 on Stadium Court, represented Sharapova’s second title of 2006 and her 12th career tour singles title.

Maria Sharapova (2), Russia, def. Kim Clijsters (1), Belgium, 7-5, 7-5.

Doubles Championship
Cara Black, Zimbabwe, and Rennae Stubbs (2), Australia, def. Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Germany, and Meghann Shaughnessy, United States, 6-2, 6-2.
